It breaks my heart that hazing deaths are still so often swept under the carpet.

Absolutely! That’s why it is so frustrating.

Thank you for sharing this meaningful and important story. As a fellow bereaved mother, I appreciate Jolayne's comments about how her relationship with Sam continues. I recognize that at times I go down the rabbit hole of lamenting all I have lost and the future my son has lost. It is good to be reminded that even when the worst happens, we can decide to shift our focus to developing a new relationship with our children.

I agree, Holly. I love the way Jolayne explains her ongoing relationship with Sam and especially how she shares moments of wonder and beauty with him. Thank you for reading.

So proud of your efforts to stop hazing for our youth. It has to come from the college administrations office. They are aware and turn a blind eye. As a former college professor, I have seen this for years and nothing seems to change. Your awareness will help others by speaking and acting out. Your Sam would be proud.

Pam, thank you for sharing your insight and experience as a college professor. It is beyond disturbing.

I don’t know when it will end. This has been going on for years. Just this year a friend of mine son was hazed at a university and had 3 fingers on each hand broken. There is no excuse for this.
